Remodeling Wobbles But Wheels’ll Be Back on in 2015

According to National Association of Home Builders economist Rob Dietz–who contributes to US News & World Report–here’s why the economy for home remodeling took a hit in 2014, but looks promising to get back on a positive track in 2015.

Dietz adds:

The primary driver of home remodeling expenditures is the pace of single-family existing home sales. Existing homeowners are most likely to improve a home prior to placing the home on the market, and new homeowners find the best time to make substantial changes to a home is immediately after purchase. My colleague Natalia Siniavskaia at the National Association of Home Builders estimated that buyers of an existing home are likely to spend on average more than $ 1,800 on property alterations during the first year of homeownership compared to non-moving homeowners.
