A member profile study done by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry in May showed kitchen projects remain uber-popular among homeowners, with 82 percent of NARI members across the country calling them their primary service offering.

In a news release shared by Kathy Raab from the local NARI chapter, the national remodeling organization — which is currently led by a Wisconsin resident — also  identified the latest design trends gleaned from entries in its contractor of the year contest, which this year saw nearly $ 73 million worth of remodeling projects nominated, including many kitchen updates.

“Consumers want practical, comfortable kitchens that are efficient to use and easy to live in,” said Kevin Anundson, NARI’s national president, who’s from Elm Grove, Wis., where he helps run Renovations Group Inc. “Bigger isn’t better, but homeowners still want a feeling of space, and open concept with islands (is) still a significant part of kitchen trends in 2014.”
