Police Arrest Head Of Home Improvement Theft Operation

Police last week arrested a suspect involved in theft and fraud of about $ 200,000 worth of home improvement merchandise.

A corporate fraud investigator for a chain of home improvement stores contacted the Long Beach Police Department in December 2011 regarding a number of thefts and fraudulent purchases committed by various suspects, officials said. The incidents had occurred throughout Southern California. The loss totaled about $ 200,000 and included expensive tools and construction equipment.

The LBPD was contacted after the initial investigator had identified a key suspect in the case, who was a Long Beach resident. LBPD Forgery/Fraud detectives took on the case and made further investigations.

They eventually served a search warrant for a suspect in a residence at the 100 block of Cherry Avenue, which revealed a large amount of tools and equipment stored at the home and inside two vans. The items were traced back to the chain store and about $ 40,000 worth of unopened merchandise will be returned to the store for sale.

Police arrested 40-year-old Long Beach resident Juan Carlos Estrada for receiving stolen property and he is being held at the Long Beach City Jail.
