News from Morehead News:

May 27, 2011 — Volunteers from Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Arizona arrived in Morehead this week to begin an extreme makeover at the Rowan and Menifee animal shelters.

On the first day of work in Rowan County, volunteers from Rescue University, Petfinder.com, Animal Lifeline, Bissell Homecare, Inc. and STAR (Saving the Animals of Rowan) had built more than 25 dog beds, repaired and erected several pieces of chain-link fence, cleaned out gutters, built frames for housing and were still digging fence post holes at 4:30.

After a long day of work, volunteers were happy to learn that Morehead State had donated the use of 12 dorm rooms for showering. “Our college kids were glad to know they could get a relaxing warm shower at night,” said Jen Daley of Animal Lifeline.

On Thursday, shelter volunteers from Bath, Carter, Menifee, Lawrence, Rowan and Clark counties met at the Morehead Parks and Recreation office for a day of education.
