CLEVELAND – The 2014 Home Improvement Show hosted by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry at Cleveland’s I-X Center is filled with dozens of money saving products and ideas.

The show presented by Sherwin Williams features multiple home improvement displays and live workshops throughout its four day schedule from Jan. 23-26.

On the display the latest products and services for your home, condo, apartment, or weekend get-away and find out what’s trending now with interior and exterior design.

 Bid on six custom-made dog houses designed and built by students from the Lorain County Joint Vocational School in conjunction with the NARI Mentorship Program with proceeds benefiting the APL.

Adopt a dog or cat from the Cleveland APL mobile adoption unit called “Rover”, which will be onsite at the show.

The show also has a Play Zone for children, courtesy of Playground World.

Those who visit the show can enter to win a $ 50,000 Home Improvement Makeover, and The Giant Backyard Giveaway, valued at $ 25,000, complete with pool, patio, gas grill and hot tub.

Tickets are $ 14, and admission is free for children under 16. The admission price can be reduced with a $ 4 discount available at all northeast Ohio Sherwin Williams locations.

Regardless of the scope, a home improvement project takes planning and a budget, according to Jake Brown, second-generation owner of Winston-Brown Construction, of Topeka.

“You don’t have to blow the bank but come up with a number you’re comfortable spending. We use budgets to guide you. We can add or subtract to meet your budget,” Brown said. “At the end of the day, if we can’t work within your budget, you’re not going to be happy. Have a good idea as to what you want, how much you want to spend and we can guide you through the rest.”

Brown, 31, who took over operations of Winston-Brown Construction in 2007, has been around the home remodeling business his entire life. His father, Gary Brown, founded the business in 1974 in Topeka after starting smaller remodeling businesses in the early 1970’s.

In the years he’s worked with his father and now at the helm of the family business, Brown said most remodeling customers fall into three categories – those you need to “hold their hands”, the “weekend warriors” and those who fall in between. Regardless of the type of customer or the scope, Brown said he and his staff try to take the same approach toward any remodeling project.
