Home improvement businesses at Loveland show anticipating sales boost this year

Without wanting to reveal hard-and-fast numbers to competitors, a handful of home improvement merchants say they have or will likely record better sales figures in the months ahead.

Battling for work over the past five years during a slumped economy, state and regional business owners selling anything from home renovations to landscaping to granite countertops said they hope to see more people buying what some consider to be luxury items or services.

Al’s Granite in Loveland opened its doors at 653 E. Eisenhower Boulevard three years ago after the recession was in full swing. Over time, business has been up and down, salesman Dale Ledford said, with peaks around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.

Since January, however, there’s been more consistency in the number of orders placed, he said, and Al’s is currently booked through mid-June.

“It’s actually starting to pick up,” Ledford said Sunday afternoon, as swarms of people walked past the company’s booth at the Home and Garden Show at The Ranch in east Loveland.

Mark Frazier started the Greeley- and Windsor-based Remodelit after he fell victim to layoffs four years ago. Kitchen and bathroom renovations, and installation of pergolas — partial patio covers — make up the greatest portion of Remodelit’s business.
