$ 220 million ‘Dynamo House’ remodeling project kicks off
News from Providence Eyewitness News:

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Officials broke ground Monday on a multi-million dollar development project in downtown Providence.

Over the next year and a half, the former South Street Power Station will be transformed into a nursing education center that the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College will both share. The state-of-the-art complex will also house offices for Brown University, and create a parking structure with retail space. The remodeling is expected to cost about $ 220 million in total.

This is not the first time plans and hope have been slated for the large brick building, but this time, Rhode Island’s leaders are confident it will be done.

Local lawmakers are also hoping this new venture will be the catalyst that kick starts downtown development.

‘I think we’re going to look back on this and I think people are going to say, ‘Wow I think what really started it was the nursing center,’” said Providence Mayor Angel Taveras.

Officials believe the nursing complex will be complete in time for the fall 2016 semester.
